As a Data Engineering Manager at Houseful:
- You will be responsible for coaching and leading a team of 7 data engineers and 3 analytics engineers.
- The role is focused on people, managing a host of stakeholders across the organisation, understanding people’s needs and ensuring the team have everything, both for work and personal development.
- The team has a good mixture of senior and mid level engineers where you will be looking to foster everyone’s individual career path and elevate the more junior members through collaborative ways of working.
- You’ll enjoy the challenge of working at the centre of a data mesh with numerous stakeholders of differing skill levels, ensuring they can contribute and extract maximum value from the platform.
- Balance the strategic with the tactical to push the data platform forward at the same time as meeting daily business unit needs.
Requirements
- You have demonstrable experience of 2 years in leading and influencing teams and organisations. You are well versed in coaching and performance management, both taking engineers through promotion, as well as having difficult conversations to ensure high standards are met.
- You have strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with an ability to communicate complex technical topics to non-technical stakeholders.
- You appreciate simplicity over complexity and understand when to navigate between both.
- Previous hands-on experience with AWS is desirable, along with strong experience in designing and implementing real-time modern data stacks.
- You are well versed in seeing the value of raw data and turning it into valuable data products for the business
- You will come from a strong data engineering background having worked with several data warehouses/lakes/lakehouses and accompanying query languages.
- Familiar with various data orchestration tools and approaches and comfortable discussing the merits of each.
- Experienced in making build vs buy decisions to balance operational costs with team bandwidth.
